*Face Grain*

The “vertical” slice of a tree.

Pro:The prettiest, most natural looking boards.

Cons: Tend to be thinner and show knife marks more easily.

*Edge Grain*

Same grain direction as face grain, just cut into strips and combined.

Pro: Less chance of warping,. Tend to be thicker and more durable.

Con: More uniform look, not as “pretty” as face grain.

Takes more work to make.

*End Grain*

As the name implies, these are the “ends” of the wood. Cut into smaller pieces and facing up.

Pro: Very strong and durable. The end grain is very prominent so these can be very pretty as well. Also these are easiest on knives as they cut into the grain, instead of across it. Less damage to the knife and the board.

Con: The most time consuming to make and therefore the most expensive. Also the end grain takes over the design so you lose the natural, rustic look.

*Specialty boards*

Special Patterns, Epoxy Inlays, Ammo Rounds.

These Boards dont fit into a regular category.
